ANNOUNCEMENT: Strands.com goes mobile, iPhone style.

One of the most important things about Strands.com is our community.   When our community speaks, we listen.    You wanted to take Strands on the go, and we’re giving it to you.   We’re proud to announce the first step to full on mobilization of the Strands.com experience.

Starting now, you can enjoy Strands.com on your iPhone and iPod Touch by visiting http://m.strands.com

With this version you’ll be able to:

- View recent activity from your friends
- Check and reply to your inbox messages
- Like and dislike things in peoples Strands
- Comment
- View images and click on links to blog posts and bookmarks
- Check out recommended posts
- Save things for later viewing once you get to your computer

And this is just the beginning.

Why is Mobile so important to us?  Because it’s become more and more of a necessary experience for those that like to do things online.   People are no longer tethered to desktops in the office…they have ultra slim laptops and now smarter phones that function as miniature computers.

Strands has a long and successful history with mobile devices: Strands won the Innovation Award in 2007 from Orange, one of the world’s largest mobile operators, was awarded the Nokia Mobile Rules Award earlier this year (http://blog.strands.com/2008/03/19/mobile-rules-winner/) and very recently was rewarded  in the BlackBerry developer challenge (http://blog.strands.com/2008/10/21/blackberry-winner/)

We’ve definitely been at the Mobile thing for a long time, here’s a post about what we’ve seen over the last year:

I’m at the Mobile 2.0 Conference today, and a lot of the talk from Firefox and Opera representatives have been about how strong the web can be as a platform for applications, so this falls right in line with that thinking.

We’re very excited to share this with you as we’ve wanted this experience as well.   Keep an eye out for more mobile fun, as I think we have the most amazing, talented, and experienced mobile team in the world!
